Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven

Welcome to the Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven! We are an eclectic mix of ages, genders, occupations, backgrounds, and interests. We are passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children to thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community, country, and worldwide through unique and innovative service projects and fundraising initiatives.

Our History

The Kiwanis Club of Winter Haven has served the community for 89 years. We were chartered on April 5th, 1935. When we started, the population of Winter Haven was about 7,000 citizens, and roughly 800 students enrolled in the high school. The club’s first meetings were held in the Lake Region Hotel on Mondays around noon. Our first president was Norma A. Street, the president of the American National Bank here in Winter Haven. The club had 26 members, which consisted of 14 business owners, three company presidents, a city commissioner, a Florida State police officer, and a few business managers.
Now, the population of Winter Haven is about 50,000 people, and roughly 3,500 students are enrolled in high school. Each month, we meet on the 1st Thursday at Grove Roots at 6:30 pm and the 2nd Tuesday at Beef O’ Bradys at noon. Our current President is Robert Brown, a Social Studies teacher at WHHS. The club has 21 members who come from a range of professions. We currently sponsor five Service Leadership Programs and partner with numerous organizations to benefit the Winter Haven community.

We would like to thank Corey from @recyclesneakerproject for attending our lunch meeting today. He spoke about the importance of reusing and recycling sneakers. They send sneakers that are worn but still good to communities around the world that could use a pair, and the ones that can’t be reused they recycle. They are working to keep these items out of landfills and providing those in need with a necessity. #recycle #reuse #keepingtheearthclean #kiwanisinternational See MoreSee Less
